NEWS NEWS NEWS

It’s a seriously news heavy day today. DC went all out announcing their own 10 movie in five years plan. They are stepping up their game. We’ve all heard by now about “Batman V Superman” starring Batfleck and Henry Cavill. There is going to be a whole cinematic universe starting there. We also know that Gal Gadot will be appearing as “Wonder Woman” in “Batman V Superman” as well. So here goes the new announcements:

The next film will be set to be “Suicide Squad” due out in 2016. It looks as though these will all be recast from the TV universe, sadly.

“Wonder Woman”, again played by Gal Gadot will be out in 2017.

The current cast of Cavill, Afleck, and Gadot will all appear in a “Justice League” Film in 2018

The other announcements have been a stand alone “Flash” film (Ezra Miller has been cast as Flash for the films), an “Aqua Man” film (now confirmed to be Jason Mamoa) in 2018. 2019 will see Shazaam, a new “Green Lantern” film, and the sequel to the “Justice League.” It’s also said that more solo “Batman” and “Superman” films are also on the way.

Let’s take a look at the new casting announcements

Jason Momoa (Aquaman) If you don’t know who he is (Have you been living under a fucking rock?) he’s best known from “Stargate Atlantis” and “Game of Thrones”

Gal Gadot you may recognize from the ‘Fast and the Furious’ franchise.

Ezra Miller best known for his role in “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”

That’s a look at the casting announcements so far anyway. So there you have it. I will endeavor to keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Marvel’s Incredible Post NYCC Announcement

Yesterday it was announced that Robert Downey Jr is signing on for Captain America 3. Why would he do that you might ask? Well if you’re not familiar with the Civil War storyline, stop reading this now and go buy the trade paper backs and catch the hell up, people.

Anyway, In the Civil War story line the two major players heading up opposing sides of the Marvel Universe are Tony Stark/ Iron Man, and Steve Rogers/ Captain America. The recent talks that Marvel has been negotiating for film rights to Spider-Man (another MAJOR player in CW) further the likelihood of this eventuality. There have also been plenty of hints dropped. Coupled with the other announcement my Marvel yesterday that Civil War will be coming again next year, and it looks like it will be taking place in the Ultimate Universe this time. The chances are pretty good we’re going to see Civil War come to the MCU. Brilliant move announcing the day after NYCC. No one expected any major news for a bit, as that sort of thing usually comes at Cons, or at least not directly after. That’s usually a huge press event. Nope, not Marvel, the sneaky bastards announced it through Twitter, fairly quietly, but that didn’t last long. Naturally the internet and Marvel fans the world over exploded in fanboy/girl fits of glee.

Enjoy some Tony v Steve Snarkiness below.

Chris Claremont on New X-Men Characters

Bleeding Cool News recently spoke with Chris Claremont about X-men. He opened up about why there won’t be any new characters anytime soon.

Ever since Disney took ownership of Marvel there seems to have been a war between the film companies. With Fox owning X-Men and Fantastic Four and Sony owning Spider-Man. Marvel has made it known they want their properties back. Fox has been almost belligerent in their refusal to work with Marvel Studios, while Sony has recently shown some willingness to work with them.

It has been rumored for some time that the reason there have been no new X-men characters is because of this situation exactly, and in the interview Claremont is the first to confirm this situation outright saying:

“I have to say quite honestly as I understand it now the X department is forbidden to create new characters.

(SHOCK RESPONSE)

“Well… who owns them?

“All because all new characters become the film property of Fox.

“There will be no X-Men merchandising for the foreseeable future because, why promote Fox material?”

With the news that Marvel is canceling Fantastic Four in April 2015 it seems Marvel has decided to sabotage them in every way possible, and who can blame them? With the wildly successful MCU breaking box office records with almost every new film. They’ve pulled any merchandising right’s they still hold, and decided to cancel a long running (though not terribly popular) series. Marvel is playing hardball here, and limiting anything they can to hurt the franchises owned by Fox to get them back. It’s thought that the recent hard-ass approach might have something to do with the announced five year plan, and the rumors that it may culminate in a Marvel Civil War movie. The fans would love to see that, but not having their mutant universe or Spider-Man, makes that nearly impossible.
